Building, tool cupboards and upkeep
Why your base decayed, and why big groups now pay more to keep theirs standing.
Last checked 2026-09-21
Overview
Most bases that vanish were not raided. They decayed because nobody fed the tool cupboard, or because the group grew and the upkeep bill grew with it.
The tool cupboard rules everything
The cupboard defines your claim radius and consumes upkeep resources. No cupboard means no claim; an empty cupboard means decay.
September 2026 changed upkeep for groups
Upkeep now scales with the number of authorised players on the cupboard. Up to four authorised players there is no extra cost; beyond that it climbs in tiers of roughly two and then four percent. Trim the auth list — old teammates you never removed are now a running cost.
Honeycomb is a sulfur wall
Every honeycomb cell is another wall someone has to pay for. That is the whole point: you are not making the base unraidable, you are making it expensive enough not to be worth it.
External cupboards
External tool cupboards became more punishing in August 2026. Placing them to deny building space around you costs more than it used to.
