The same game runs under very different rules. Know which one you are reading advice about.

Overview
A great deal of DayZ advice is silently about one ruleset. Loot rates, raiding rules, base limits and even medical items differ between official and community servers, and modded servers differ from both.
Official
Vanilla rules, the base loot economy, the persistence and wipe policy set by Bohemia. This is what patch notes describe.
Community
Server owners set loot multipliers, raid windows, base rules and often their own map rotation. Advice about "the economy" frequently does not survive contact with a community server.
Expansions
Frostline (Sakhal) and Badlands are paid expansions on official. Community servers may run those assets under different rules, so a guide has to say which ruleset it means.
Performance
1.29 was sold as a major performance pass, with internal stress tests reporting up to a fourfold improvement on high-population servers. Community servers with heavy mod loads will not see the same figures.
